Tell us about your fitness and/or lifestyle background:
 
Before Crossfit I was active normally going to the gym 4 times a week and occasionally running. Growing up I always played sports but always struggled with my weight. CrossFit took my fitness to another level.


How did you first get exposed to CrossFit 580? Take us back to your first workout… what was it, and how did it feel?

I first heard about 580 through a friend. I was new to Livermore and also nervous about trying CrossFit but she reinsured me how great it was for all fitness levels and I decided to give it a shot. I remember my first on ramp classes with Joy and how I could not even jump rope, I hadn’t done that since I was a kid. But everyone was so positive and helpful it wasn’t long till I got the hang of it. The one thing I realized was everything could be scaled to your level while you still were able to get an amazing workout. The first few WODs were definitely exhausting and I was sore in areas I have never worked before. But no matter how sore or tired I was I was excited and couldn’t wait to come back the next day.


What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting 
CrossFit 580? (before/after)

I have seen significant changes in my body composition since starting CrossFit. Not only have I lost about 40lbs but most importantly, I have gained muscle and strength. That is one reason why I love CrossFit, I am also gaining strength while losing fat. My endurance has also significantly improved and my 5k time has improved. Overall, my body feels better and healthier!


What changes in your life have you experienced from CrossFit 580 that were totally unexpected? 
 
CrossFit has not only helped me physically but mentally, something I did not expect. I have improved my mental toughness through all aspects of my life and have learned to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things. I have now competed in 3 scaled competitions and completed at tough mudder. If someone had asked me three years if I would have ever of done those things I would say your crazy. But the biggest thing 580 has given me that I did not expect is amazing friends. Everyone cares about each other, pushes each other, and wants each other to succeed.


Please share with us any favorite CrossFit 580 moments:
 
Some of my favorite CF580 moments are completing a grueling tough mudder with a bunch of new friends, training for my first competition, and just spending time pushing each other to be better each day.


What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit 580?
 
I love exploring new places and traveling. Anything active outdoors hiking, biking, and recently paddle boarding. I also like to try new foods, like craft beers, and love ice cream but keep that to a minimum.


Any advice for people just getting started?
 
Don’t feel intimidated by CrossFit anyone can really do it. Everything can be scaled or modified for you so don’t feel overwhelmed. You can’t compare yourself to anyone else so don’t. Make personal goals for yourself and make them reasonable. If you are thinking about giving it a try go for it! As someone who was nervous to start myself it was one of the best decisions I have made and has had such a positive affect on my life.
