Tell us about your fitness/lifestyle background:
Have always been athletic playing  football, cross country, baseball, golf and wrestling in High School.   Joined the Marine Corp at 17 and continue playing sports on the base teams for 10 years, also got into power lifting during that time.  More recently was a member of ClubSport Pleasanton for 10 years, joined their triathlon team and competed for 4 years, ran about  6 half marathon’s and did a number of swim events, biggest one being the Alcatraz to Aquatic Park Swim.  Beside CrossFit which I love my true passion is Golf, I absolutely wish I could have played professional golf…. I would be a happy camper.

How did first get exposed to CrossFit 580?  Take us back to your first work….what was it and how did it feel?
About 4-5 years ago we (Peachie and I) felt we were getting stale in our workouts, you know the drill go to the gym Monday is chest day, Tuesday is back day, and Wednesday is leg day….etc.  We came in a talked to Mark and Joy back in 2010 when they first opened but did not pull the trigger on joining but we talked about it again and decided to give it a try in 2012.   We held onto our membership at ClubSport for a year after joining CrossFit 580, but then we soon realized we would never go back to that type of workout routine again.   As far as first workout, I don’t remember, but I do remember and still to this day wondering after every workout “When do I stop getting so sore”…. You all know what I mean…..hahaha   What I know now and should have realized then that is what you want ultimately in a workout something that is constantly changing so your muscle never get complaisant.

What have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit 580 (before/after)?  Mine is the tale of two segments, as I had a back injury that required surgery in 2014 (no fault of doing CrossFit, just years of abuse on a bad vertebrae).  Anyway I had a year and half of CrossFit before and now have been using CrossFit during my recovery period and am now back into building all my strength back.   I am 100% back doing everything I want to do and have just recently started setting new PR’s in almost all of my lifts.

What changes in your life have you experienced from CrossFit 580 that were totally unexpected?
I never in my wildest thoughts dreamed of joining the CrossFit Games, but was talked into it last year and it was an amazing stretch goal.  I end up placing in the top 800 out of 3500 people world wide in my age group as a first time competitor, this year’s goal is top 500.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit 580 moments.
My favorite CrossFit 580 moments happen every day I show up at the box, because I work from home I don’t get allot of personal face time with people on a daily basis.   So showing up at the box and being with other like minded positive fitness oriented people just makes my day.  The community at CrossFit 580 is so amazing and positive I look forward to going to the box and seeing who will be there.  I don’t want to leave out our coaches as I truly believe we have the very best in the tri valley.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit 580?
Peachie and I love to travel especially outside the country, our goal is to visit all the places we have dreamed about while we are still young and able to enjoy them.   Hobbies are wine tasting and entertaining at our house or with friends anywhere that has good food.

Any advice for people just getting started?
Stick with it, scaled workouts are absolutely acceptable ( I do them all the time), it’s all about fitness not injury.  Let your body be your guide and listen when it tells you to back off a little.   Other than that have fun and enjoy the wonderful people at CrossFit 580 and in no time you will see the improvements just as I have.
