Tell us about your fitness/lifestyle background:
If someone would have told me a few years ago that I would be doing CrossFit, I wouldn
t have believed them. I was not very active and knew nothing about weight lifting. I never played sports growing up and the extent of my fitness experience was the cardio machines at the gym. After going through a stressful time in my life, I decided to make some changes and do something meaningful for myself. Health and fitness became a priority for me. I started out by experimenting with various types of fitness/training programs and even tried a personal trainer for a while. I felt more in shape but I wanted to try something different and more challenging -I just didnt know what.
 
How did first get exposed to CrossFit 580?  Take us back to your first workout….what was it and how did it feel?
A friend recommended CrossFit to me. I spent some time at a couple different boxes around the East Bay before making CF 580 my home. I
m so glad I did! The coaches and members are the best. I remember feeling nervous and a little overwhelmed during my first workout. The coach, however, did an excellent job of modifying the movements to my ability level. By the end of the workout, I knew this is what I had been looking for in a fitness program.
 
What have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit 580 (before/after)?  
My strength and endurance have improved. In the beginning, I could barely lift an empty barbell and hated running. Now Im slowly but surely increasing weight and while running is still not my favorite, its a lot easier now. The workouts have also been a great stress reliever in my life.
 
What changes in your life have you experienced from CrossFit 580 that were totally unexpected?
Increased energy and improved immunity-two important things given that I work with kids all day! I always feel energized after the workouts and rarely get sick anymore. I
ve also had the opportunity to meet many awesome people. I love how CrossFit brings people together from diverse backgrounds. Theres a sense of camaraderie that I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
 
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit 580 moments.
The day I did my first box jump was quite an accomplishment for me since I had psyched myself out about it for so long. Also, my first Twelve Days of Christmas WOD with my buddy Jen F. was a memorable experience and probably the most challenging workout Ive done so far. I didnt think Id be able to finish but I surprised myself!
 
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit 580?
I love traveling, hiking, wine tasting, and good food.
 
Any advice for people just getting started?
Don
t feel intimidated. All workouts are scaled to your fitness level and no one is judgmental. Sometimes you have to get outside your comfort zone and try something new. You will be amazed at what you are capable of!
