Congratulations to Marissa Pagaran, our January 2016 Athlete of the Month and newest addition to the CrossFit 580 Coaching Staff! Please read Marissa’s story below:
When did you first start training at CrossFit 580?
What is your favorite workout/movement?
Anything with squats & lunges

Tell us about your fitness and/or lifestyle background:
Before I did Crossfit, I wasn’t really into fitness. I knew I wanted to have a healthy lifestyle, but never really knew how to go about it. I would occasionally go to the gym & do cardio. I didn’t know much about weights.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit 580? Take us back to your first workout… what was it, and how did it feel?
I heard about Crossfit through a friend (Thanks Harold !). We were having a conversation about how I wanted to do something different than the typical 24hr leg day, back day, ect. He mentioned how he started doing Crossfit & how he loved it. He convinced me to sign up for on ramp with Joy. I remember doing on ramp & thinking to myself “I have my work cut out for me.” I don’t exactly remember my first workout, but I do remember doing murph a couple months after I started. I remember I was doing my pull ups with a green band & that last mile was horrible ! I wanted to quit at that point. I remember being super sore & the soreness never went away ! 😕
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit 580? (before/after)
I’ve seen significant changes in my body. I’m definitely a lot stronger than I was before. I’ve gained muscle & strength. I’m definitely more obsessed with my fitness & maintaining a healthy lifestyle than ever before. Overall, Crossfit 580 has changed me for the better.
What changes in your life have you experienced from CrossFit 580 that were totally unexpected?
Where do I even begin…Crossfit has changed me mentally & physically. I would have never thought I would be doing the crazy s*** we do ! Crossfit has pushed me out of my comfort zone day in & day out. The most unexpected change I’ve experienced is the support & friends that I have gained from 580. I’ve nurtured so many amazing friendships & memories from 580 that I hold close to my heart. I can’t thank 580 enough for everything that I’ve experienced & continue to experience here.

Some of my favorite CF580 moments were training for my first competition & moxie, participating in all the holiday festivities at the box, & just being surrounded by my amazing 580 family everyday
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit 580?
I love hiking, exploring new places, & trying out new things. Eating ? Is that a hobby ? Ever since I started Crossfit…I eat all the freaking time ! It’s a bittersweet feeling…
Any advice for people just getting started?
Just keep going !! Do NOT quit. It never gets easier, you just keep getting better. Don’t get too intimidated by your surroundings, know that everyone is at a different level in their Crossfit journey. Just be patient with yourself, set personal goals, & continue to be the badass that you are!!
