Tell us about your fitness/lifestyle background:

Growing up I was a cheerleader and a gymnast so always pretty active. That all ended in high school and I never really worked out much after that. I was always pretty tall and lean and never really had to worry about my weight. All through my twenties I was pretty active in an outdoorsy kind of way and did some at home workouts from time to time. Life and my body took a big turn after having my son in May of 2013. I didn’t just bounce back to my pre-pregnancy weight like I had hoped. And now in my 30’s working out is an essential part of my life not only for the physical benefits but also for the mental benefits.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit 580?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and after recovering from all the treatments associated with that I knew it was time to take a serious approach to my health. I did a year stint at an all women’s gym and was really liking the way I felt with regular exercise. At the end of my contract my husband decided that he would like to start working out regularly too so we started to shop around for a gym that we both could go to. We live across the railroad tracks behind the gym and could hear the music and coach everyday so we thought we would look in to what gym it was. We started off doing the evening boot camp class and became hooked! After about a year of boot camp I gathered up the courage to try out a CrossFit class and the rest is history.

What have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit 580 (before/after)?

Since starting CrossFit 580 I have noticed a huge improvement in my mental health as well as my strength and endurance. I had never been exposed to weight lifting before and I’m constantly surprising myself with what I’m capable of. I’m stronger, happier and more confident then ever before!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit 580 moments:

One of my favorite moments at CrossFit 580 was when I got my first PR and got to put name up on the wall! LOL! Honestly, there are so many more. All of the people there have become like a little family of mine. When my health took a scary turn my CF580 family was the first to rally around and offer their support and for that I will be forever grateful!

What are you hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit 580?

Outside of the gym I am a wife and a Mommy to a 5 year old son. As a family we enjoy the outdoors either camping, hiking, riding dirt bikes or wakeboarding.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Don’t be intimidated!! It took me so long to finally try a CrossFit class because I was so intimidated by it all. I had never even heard of half the movements let alone tried any of them. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to do it however that isn’t the case at all. All of the coaches were so friendly and explained everything in detail. And if there is something that you aren’t able to do they will show you a modification. Plus everyone else was so warm and welcoming there really is nothing to be afraid of!
